19 Feb 2016 - Different Kinds Of Tiles

Putting tiles in your home is a great investment when you consider how durable they are. Tiles usually look great in kitchens and bathrooms, but they can be used virtually anywhere in your house. The best part about having tiles in a room is the fact that they require little to no maintenance and they are so easy to clean. The only negative thing about a tiled room is the fact that the room will be a little colder after being tiled, and to some this is a benefit even, so it is minimal, and, if you have a little extra to spend, you could invest in heated tiles, since this will give you the option to heat up the tiles and thus heat up the room. Keep in mind that, while heated tiles cost a little more and take a little electricity, it could add a little to the total value of your home, so there are many benefits to that as well.

Different Kinds Of Tiles

When it comes to tiles, you are not only having them put in, or putting them in, because you want something durable, since you also want something that is stylish and will look amazing. The problem is that there are not only different colour tiles, but also different kinds of tiles, and you should consider which kind you want, since the kind you choose has a big impact on how it will look, what finish it will have and how durable it will be, also don’t forget that it will play a big role in the total price.

One of the kinds of tiles that you get is ceramic tiles. Ceramic tile is made from clay, to sum it up, and there are various processes in which these tiles are made, but that is not important right now, and you most probably don’t want to read about that. There are two different kinds of ceramic tile, namely porcelain and non-porcelain. There is a difference in the process of making the different kinds, but you most probably don’t want to get into that. To sum up, non-porcelain is the most economical option and porcelain ceramic tiles are more expensive, more durable, look better, have a natural stain resistance and provide minimal water absorption.

Next, you get stone tile.  Natural stone tile looks beautiful and is more expensive than ceramic tile. The different kinds of stone tile that you get are granite, marble, limestone, travertine and slate. To quickly explain the different kinds of stone tile, granite is a very dense and hard stone, many people know what marble is, so there is no need to explain this, but keep in mind that it must be honed and sealed regularly, limestone is sedimentary rock, travertine is a type of limestone that has a more crystallized appearance and slate is a very dense and durable rock.
